MoCI takes action against unlicensed retail outlet in a house in Msheireb

* For selling counterfeit products and goods of international brands on social media platforms
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior (MoI), carried out a joint inspection campaign on a retail outlet operating without a commercial licence at a house in Msheireb. The campaign resulted in issuing a violation against the outlet, based on Article No 6 of Law No 8 of 2008 on Consumer Protection, for displaying and selling counterfeit products and goods bearing international marks on social media platforms, as well as for practicing commercial activity without obtaining the necessary licensing. The due legal measures were taken against the violators.
Inspection campaigns are part of the ministry’s efforts to monitor markets and commercial activities across Qatar, and control prices, as well as detect abuses and commodities that are falsified, counterfeit, or non-conforming to standard specifications. Violating Law No 8 exposes perpetrators to penalties ranging from administrative closure to financial fines between QR3,000 and QR1min. The ministry stressed that it would not tolerate any negligence in terms of meeting obligations stipulated in Law No 8 and its executive by-laws.
The ministry is working to intensify its inspection campaigns to control violating practices, and to refer violators of laws and ministerial decisions to the competent authorities to take the due measures. The ministry also urges all citizens and residents to report any violations or infractions through the following channels: - Call Centre: 16001 - MoCI’s social media accounts: Twitter @MOCIQATAR, Instagram MOCIQATAR
