Tributes paid to Kerala's Mappila art legend

At a condolence meeting organised by the Diaspora of Malappuram (DoM Qatar), prominent personalities in Kerala and abroad noted that Kairali has lost a unique talent in the field of Mappila art, V M Kutty.
Kutty, who was instrumental in popularising the unique literary and musical tradition, passed away in the southern Indian state of Kerala recently. He was 86.
Moyeenkutty Vaidyar Mappilakala Academy chairman Hussain Randathani said Mappilappattu has lost a great personality who gave natural, patriotic and human values to Mappilapat, and had a great impact on people who shared his views on many issues.
During the memorial service, Mappilappattu researcher Faisal Elettil said the demise of Kutty, a Mappilappattu singer, composer, music director and illustrator, was an irreparable loss to the Mappila art. Kutty brought artistes, including himself, into the community.
Fazeela, a well-known singer, said his insight and organisational skills brought many artistes onto the platform.
Sam Basheer said after reaching many destinations in foreign countries, the Mappilappattu branch reached its heights in Kerala. Kutty had a great role in enhancing Mappilapatt and making it a part of society.
V M Hussein Kadannamanna also spoke about Kutty's contribution to Mappilapat in Qatar.
Muttalib Mattannur, famous Mappilappattu observer, R J Rajas, Usman Kallan, A K Abdul Jalil, Achu Ullattil, Abdul Rauf Kondotty, Balan Manancheri, V V Hamsa, Shanavas Elachola, Sreedharan, Suresh Panicker, Keshavadas, Asgarali Chungathara, Nabsha Mujeeb, Fasila Mashood, Nias Kottapuram, Noufal Kattupara, Anees KT Valapuram, Irfan Pakara and Razia Usman offered their condolences.
The function was presided over by president Mashhood Thiruthiyad. General secretary Abdul Asees Chevidikkunnan welcomed the audience and Arts Wing co-ordinator Harishankar gave the vote of thanks.
