In the framework of its normal operations and tasks inside Qatari waters, patrols of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security stopped two Bahraini boats on Wednesday afternoon, after they were spotted inside Qatari waters (5.25 nautical miles) northwest of Fasht al-Dibal, without prior notice.
Accordingly, the relevant authorities of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security contacted the Operations Room in Bahrain to obtain a justification for the presence of the two boats in the Qatari waters. After receiving no response, the captain of the boat which was stopped was inquired and he stated that he had lost contact with his leadership, and that his equipment had broken down while they were inside the Bahraini waters, causing him to lose his way back.
The captain of the Bahraini boat requested the Qatari Coasts and Borders Security patrols to allow him and the accompanying boat to return to his area. Therefore, coordination was made again with Bahrain, and the two boats were allowed to leave the area.
It is worth noting that the location where the two Bahraini boats were monitored was opposite to the exercise site that was previously announced.
