Qatar Social & Cultural Center for Blind (QSCCB) celebrated the International White Cane Day by organising an awareness-raising meeting about its importance for the blind and also the methods of the blind movement.
The meeting, which was organised via the Zoom programme, discussed the role of modern technology in helping the visually impaired, in addition to reviewing some personal experiences.
A song produced by the Center for Music Affairs was presented during the meeting, to celebrate the occasion with the co-operation of the two sides.
Chairman of QSCCB Faisal al-Kooheji said that the centre seeks through its celebration of the International White Cane Day, which falls on Oct 15 each year, to affirm the right of the blind to move outside their home by using the cane, and to inform the visually impaired about its importance in achieving independence and self-reliance. He also said that the centre celebrates annually this occasion by organising a march in public places, to introduce the society to the blind and to explain the use of the cane.
He added that the centre has launched a weeklong awareness campaign by introducing the white cane on its social media platforms, to encourage its use.
