Two Qatari men who recently recovered from Covid-19, 55-year-old Ali al-Ahbabi and 35-year-old Mohamed al-Kaabi, shared their experience while speaking to Qatar TV yesterday.
Both of them highly appreciated the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the efforts of the government for the excellent and timely medical care they received throughout their period of sickness.
They stressed that the same level of care is given to both Qataris and expatriates alike, noting that the entire medical staff have done an excellent job.
One of the two men, al-Ahbabi, has also been suffering from diabetes.
“When I was at the hospital receiving treatment from the infection, there were some expatriates from different nationalities near me and they were given exactly the same level of high-quality ad timely care that I was given without any discrimination,” he said.
Al-Ahbabi said after he had a high body temperature that would not come down, he went to a health centre in Al Sheehaniya where they conducted the necessary tests and asked him to quarantine himself at home until he gets a call with the results.
Then, after the infection was confirmed, they took him to Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital for treatment.
Al-Ahbabi was in the intensive care unit (ICU) for two weeks, after which his condition started to improve as he received a number of medications - with the process of full recovery taking about two months.
He described the experience as “very difficult” for him and his family as some nine people in his house including his family members and household workers, got infected and were quarantined and treated accordingly. He stressed that it is highly important listen to the authorities’ instructions and avoid going out unnecessarily in order to avoid such bitter experiences.
Similarly, al-Kaabi described his experience as an “extremely difficult one” - one that he hoped nobody should have. After he had cough and a high temperature, his condition worsened gradually until he eventually tested positive for Covid-19. Last month, he was taken to Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital for treatment and had to be admitted to the ICU for almost 15-20 days. It took him almost a month to fully recover from the novel coronavirus.
He stressed that Covid-19 is a “very tricky” disease and everybody has to take extra care and must not play down the seriousness of the matter. This is because the experience of having the infection is very painful for both the person affected and his/her family and others around them.
